Stanislav  Grof, M.D. is a psychiatrist with over forty years experience researching nonordinary states of consciousness. He was Chief of Psychiatric Research at Maryland Psychiatric Research Center, and was a Scholar-in-Residence at Esalen Institute for fourteen years. He is one of the founders and chief theoreticians of transpersonal psychology.


His books include: Holotropic Mind; The Adventure of Self-Discovery; Beyond the Brain; and Realms of the Human Unconscious.

Christina Grof is co-creator of Holotropic Breathwork TM, author, teacher, artist, and founder of the Spiritual Emergence Network. She is a  graduate of Sarah Lawrence College, where she studied with mythologist Joseph Campbell, Ms. Grof is a former teacher of art and writing. Since 1976, she has given workshops and lectures in North and South America, Europe, Australia, and Asia. From 1976 until 1988, Ms. Grof was in residence at The Esalen Institute, Big Sur, California.
Ms. Grof is the author of The Thirst for Wholeness: Attachment, Addiction, and the Spiritual Path.  Her other books, written with Stanislav Grof, M.D., are Beyond Death, Spiritual Emergency: When Personal Transformation Becomes a Crisis, and The Stormy Search
