Through breathing and evocative music, nonordinary states of consciousness are induced. These states allow mobilization of activity within the psyche that seeks the most relevant material for the individual to experience (much like an "internal radar"). This process is facilitated by certified Holotropic Breathwork practitioners who provide a safe non-judgmental atmosphere for experiential work in nonordinary states of consciousness.
THE TYPICAL WORKSHOP DAY
There is an introductory presentation about working in nonordinary states of consciousness, a description of Grof's expanded maps of consciousness, and the general range of experiences that that these states open for the participant. This is followed by a talk about the actual practice of breathwork.
The participants find a partner for the breathwork sessions. There are two sessions. In the first session one of the pair of participants will do the breathing while their partner ("the sitter") attends to any needs the breather my have (such as providing a drink of water, etc.). After each session the breather has the opportunity to draw something that represents the nature of their experience (no artistic talent required). There is a meal break after each session. The workshop concludes with a group session where participants can share something about their experience.
